Problems we fix

What is your dishwasher doing?

The most common problems we see, and what usually causes them.

  • Water left in the bottom

A clogged filter or sump, a blocked air gap or garbage-disposal connection, or a failed drain pump.

  • Dishes come out dirty or gritty

Clogged spray arms, a weak circulation pump, low water fill or a dirty filter.

  • Dishes stay wet

A failed heating element, an empty or broken rinse-aid dispenser, or a vent fan fault on models that have one.

  • Leaking from the door

A worn door gasket, the wrong detergent making too much foam, or a cracked spray arm aiming water at the door.

  • Will not start

A faulty door latch switch, a blown thermal fuse, the control board or the keypad.

  • Will not fill

A failed water inlet valve, a stuck float switch, or the supply valve under the sink turned off.

FAQ

Dishwasher questions

Should I clean the filter myself first?

Yes, it is worth trying. On most models the filter twists out of the bottom of the tub. Rinse it under the tap and put it back. If the problem stays, book a visit.

Is it normal for a little water to stay in the bottom?

A small amount around the filter is normal on many models. Standing water above the filter, or a bad smell after the cycle, is not.

Why does a cycle take so long?

Newer dishwashers use less water and run longer, often two hours or more. A cycle that never finishes, or takes much longer than it used to, can point to a heating or sensor problem.
