Cooktop Repair
Gas and electric cooktops, built into the counter or on top of a range. Gas problems are usually ignition or a dirty burner. Electric problems are usually an element, a switch or a burned connection.

Gas safety. If you smell gas, do not use the appliance or any light switches. Leave the house and call your gas utility first. We repair the appliance once the gas company says the area is safe.
What is your cooktop doing?
The most common problems we see, and what usually causes them.
Burner will not light
A wet or dirty burner cap and base, a cracked igniter, or a failed spark module.
Clicking that will not stop
Moisture in a burner switch after a spill, or a faulty switch or spark module.
Weak or yellow flame
Clogged burner ports, a cap sitting off-center, or a cooktop set up for the wrong gas type.
Element stays cold
A failed element, a bad switch, or a burned wire or terminal.
Element stuck on high
A switch that has failed closed, or a stuck relay on the control board.
Hot-surface light stays on
A faulty indicator switch or sensor.

Cooktop questions
My burner keeps clicking after I cleaned the cooktop. What should I do?
Water got into the switch or the burner. Take the cap off and let the parts dry for a few hours. If the clicking continues the next day, book a visit.
Can a cracked glass cooktop be repaired?
The glass top is replaced as one part. Stop using a cracked top, because spills can reach the wiring underneath.
Can I use the cooktop if one burner will not light?
You can use the other burners. Do not keep trying to light a burner that will not ignite, and do not light it with a match. If you smell gas, turn it off and leave the house.
